MHCSD contracts refuse collection services from West Valley Disposal. A three cart system is used for efficient and organized collection of refuse. The Green Cart is for garbage, The Blue Cart is for recycling and The Brown Cart is for lawn and garden waste. Placement of all carts at the curb is essential to insure collection by automated trucks.

Important Cart System Information!

Never place the following items in your carts:

  • Dead animals
  • Dirt or rocks
  • Hot ashes or coal
  • Hazardous Waste (see information below)
  • Liquids such as oil, water, gas or chemicals

Cart Protocol & Family Safety

  • All Carts must have 3 feet of clearance and must be 6 feet from vehicles, boats and trailers.
  • Cart lids must be completely closed
  • Kids (and some dogs) love trucks – please keep children and dogs at a safe distance from collection vehicles.

How The Three Cart System Works

The Green Cart

The Green Cart is for garbage and is collected at the curb every week on your regular scheduled collection day. Service days may be subject to change and customers will be notified in advance. Place your trash cart on either side of your driveway, at the edge of the curb. Allow a minimum of three feet of clearance on all sides of the cart from objects such as trees, fences, mailboxes, streetlights and other carts. Position your carts in a manner so that pedestrians can use the sidewalk.

The Blue Cart

The Blue Cart is for recycling. You can do your part to help save landfill space, preserve natural resources and conserve energy by participating. Put your recycling cart in a convenient location and use it everyday. Make the recycling lifestyle a part of your household. Recycling is easy with this collection system. Just fill your blue cart with the acceptable materials listed below. Place this cart at the curb every other week along with your trash cart for collection. Acceptable materials include:

  • Plastic: Plastic bottles and jugs
  • Metal: Aluminum foils and trays, tin and steel cans
  • Glass: Glass bottles and jars
  • Paper: Newspapers, corrugated cardboard, chipboard, paper bags, junk mail

The Brown Cart

The Brown Cart is for yard and garden refuse. Recent surveys show that up to 40% of the residential waste stream is made up of organic green waste. You can help reduce waste by putting your yard and garden waste into this Brown cart. Place this cart at the curb every other week along with your trash cart for collection.
